Northwest Hills Community Church
99 Plus 1 hosted the Northwest Hills Community Church of Corvallis, OR, a Mexican Medical Ministries team, in San Felipe. The Youth team desired to return to San Felipe but Mexican Medical does not currently have a missionary assigned to the region. The team of 46 worked on a variety of projects at Nueva Cancion, Sonshine Hacienda and at the 99 Plus 1 facilities.
At Nueva Cancion the group helped install the wiring (both underground and in the buildings)
for the new solar system that is being put in place at the rehabilitation center. Their efforts resulted in over 500 feet of buried wire and the installation of lights, switches and outlets in 8 buildings. A special thanks to John Bolster and Ron Kunkel for installing the new batteries and control systems.
At the Sonshine Hacienda a small team helped ready more areas for the eventual installation of the wiring. In the quieter moments several of the team did some prayer walking in the community and befriended some young girls. The group was subsequently invited to a cultural dance the next day at the local Las Minitas primary grade school.
Around the 99 Plus 1 facilities the team worked on two projects. The old
sheet rock in the carport was removed (to include dirt, dust, dead cat, dirt and did I mention dirt). The long overdue errors in wiring was corrected and new sheet rock installed. Another part of the team replaced the fascia on the East end of the building as well as repainted the wall. So much of the old was deteriorated and missing that it was almost not necessary to remove much of the old.
The group did a four-day outreach at a new park between the areas called Gavilanes and the Arroyo; providing around 70 local children with songs, dramas, and crafts as well as a lot of attention to the children.
We had the privilege of witnessing the baptism of 5 young people in the Sea of Cortez. Although several of the five had made a commitment before coming to San Felipe, they had not yet demonstrated their obedience through baptism.
The last day the young men of the group presented 99 Plus 1 with some soccer uniforms and equipment to be passed on children in the community. It was just another example of the generosity that so typified their attitude.
The group came with a goal to serve. They were well prepared to physically, mentally and spiritually to that end. And in our opinion they met and exceeded their goals as well as the Lord’s. We pray that our paths will cross again as we travel with the Lord.
