Bonnie & I are back home again. Her surgery was successful and the recovery is going well. PTL! We spent a week with the Wilson’s in Somerset for a time of rest. We thank the Lord of their friendship and hospitality. The healing will take just under a year so Bonnie is learning a “new normal” for new. Continue to pray for patience for both of us. Thanks be to the Lord and to each of you praying us through!

Tiling and Landscaping Continues at Sonshine Hacienda Orphanage

Thanks to Leo and Samuel the multipurpose room is now tiled and awaiting grout. The color of grout that was selected is no longer available and we will need to choose another color. The room looks awesome even without the grout. The Brothers (in the Lord) did a beautiful job. They are continuing the tiling in the second wing bathroom. It won’t be long and the major areas of the 1st floor will be tiled! In the Landscaping project; he cement edging for the walk ways are in and they are ready to move to the next phase. The the edging help to set and define the courtyard. I can hardly wait to see the final beauty! As you may remember from an earlier post, the landscaping is being donated by a family and Versoleil Landscaping here in San Felipe.

99 Plus 1 Joins Soccer Leagues

Not long ago we were approached by a group of young men asking if we would support a soccer team. It is a group that wanted to play together but needed a sponsor. The 14 agreed to spend 30 minutes each week studying the Bible with us and commit to practicing each week. Only a couple of the youth attend a church “somewhat” regularly but agreed that it would be good to learn what God says about attitudes. Thanks to “Club Dan” we were able to present each with a new Bible to bring and to read throughout the week. They were excited when we asked them if they would be willing to join two leagues; the brand new church league and the city league. Daniel Roldan is coaching the team and win, lose, or draw, we Praise the Lord for the opportunity to have a spiritual and positive influence in the lives of these young men. Some are children of military personnel and so could be opening a door for some ministry in that area as well. When God lets me know, I’ll let you know. Meanwhile , rejoice with us in what God is putting in our path to do for His Glory!

Bonnie came through her back surgery just fine and is out of the hospital. We are spending a week with friends until her follow-up appointment on the 24th. Thanks for the prayers and to God for his continuous watch care over her and the medical staff.

Karen has been suffering from an onset of severe headaches. While the doctors appear to be closing in on a diagnosis, the headaches continue. Please join us in prayer for our partner in ministry at Sonshine Hacienda. We pray for identification and resolution for her, wisdom for the doctors and technicians.

Work Inside the Rooms at Orphanage Continues Forward

While the landscaping is being started outside Sonshine Hacienda, inside work is continuing as well. Thanks to Brothers Leo and Samuel the tile on the walls of the bathrooms are complete and the floors in four of rooms are done completing the tiling in one of the two wings. We have received word from the Faith Community Fellowship Church in Mt. Vernon, WA that the last of the “extra” door’s cost has been covered by the members of the church during a recent “Buy a Door” campaign. Lord willing, they will be transported down and installed by Paul and Donna Korneliussen when they come down in September. As well, KenSue Taekwondo and Trevor Torgeson have donated the material and labor to construct the second floor balcony railings. They have chosen a beautiful rising sun theme for the front railing which will set off the second floor while tying the name of the orphanage to it’s purpose. Trevor has been given the “green light” to build the first of the bunk-beds for the dorm rooms.

Landscaping Begins at Sonshine Hacienda Orphanage

Sonshine Hacienda Orphanage is blessed again! The owner, and his wife, of Versoliel Landscaping Company here in San Felipe are donating all of the labor and materials to landscape the orphanage. Versoleil together with another family are covering the cost of the plants, installation of the sidewalks, benches and is including in the donation the first 6 months of maintenance. The designing of the landscaping was well thought out with and will be an attractive feature of the entire facilities. The area will be a tranquil area with palapas to provide shaded areas to sit and relax. There is still much to complete before opening, however, this step represents a major step forward in the completion process.We are very excited to see this phase become a reality. A heart felt thanks to each that has brought this donation to a reality. But most of all to God for continue to shower us with His Blessings.

River Oak Grace Brings “River of Life” to San Felipe

The River Oak Grace Church from Oakdale, CA brought down a mixed age group of servants to teach and aid in construction. The group brought down funds from the memorial of Sister Isabel Dominguez, who dearly loved the people and the pastors of San Felipe. Her departing desire was to help Pastor Pedro Gomez, of Iglesia Nueva Jerusalén, build a better house for himself and his wife. In addition to construction, each day a devotion for the group was done by a local missionary or pastor and each evening the group presented a Vacation Bible School to the children and Pastor Paul conducted classes deepening their knowledge using the biblical thread “The Cordero de Dios” (The Lamb of God) from various books of the Bible. They were also taught a simple and easy to remember method of presenting the “Good News” to others raising their confidence level and encouraging them to evangelize in their circle of contacts and/or influence.
In addition to furthering the construction for Pastor Pedro, part of the group split off to complete other tasks. One day they helped move a trailer that will be used as a house for a family with three girls. The next day they donated their skills and time to Sonshine Hacienda Orphanage. They made the forms and poured 5 cement slabs that will be home to the air conditioning units that we except to be delivered starting next week.
We praise the Lord for these willing servants that He sent to come along side of His servants in San Felipe.

Working Forward at Sonshine Hacienda Orphanage

It is exciting to continue seeing the project move forward. With John’s recent travels Bonnie and Karen Lewis (Marketplace Missions) has been handling the day to day oversight. They capable ladies have done a marvelous job of keeping the work moving. Upstairs the painting is almost completely done thanks to many hands from Mexican and American communities. The next step upstairs will be to install the grid ceiling framework. Meanwhile downstairs, Brothers Leo and Samuel are moving forward with the tiling in the care-taker apartments. One is now completely tiled and one is in process. Now that the majority of the major construction is done, another group of individuals and the men from Nueva Cancion cleaned up the rubble and trash that has built up since the last “clean sweep”. The building seems to transform almost daily. A Canadian family approached Marketplace with an offer to build and install the second floor safety railing. This will set off the building beautifully when in place. The tile to continue with the other rooms is one site and will be the next set of objectives. The material to trim out the windows has also been purchaced so that part can continue to advance as well. A bid for the air conditioners has been accepted and delivery should start within a week or two with installation soon to follow. It is difficult to mention all of the “littler” jobs that are being advanced. We ask that you continue to pray for the movement toward completion of this badly needed facility in San Felipe.

Steel for New Building

The men from Nueva Cancion have been busy for the couple of weeks preparing the re-bar for the foundations of the new building. We are waiting on the Lord for the next step which is to dig the footing and pour the foundation itself. The Lord has also put upon our hearts to modify the purpose of the first floor. It will be modified to have a total of four room with the intended purpose of housing up to eight of our elderly here in San Felipe. The current Serenity House location, that can accommodate a maximum of 3-4 men, will be moved to the new building when it is ready. At present we are limited to men or women and cannot take both. The planned apartment of the building will be used by the care takers of the Serenity house. As you may recall the purpose of the Serenity House is to house elderly that are either without family support or in abusive situations. We thank God for changing our focus to a facility that can be used all year instead of only a few weeks per year. The purpose for the second floor will remain for additional group housing.
